Robert Hooke FRS (born1635 – )[4][a] was an English polymath; physicist, astronomer, geologist, meteorologist and architect.
Included today for his eponymous law for elasticity.

He was also one of the first "natural philosophers" to investigate living things at a microscopic level, both with an eye glass and with a macroscope of his own design. As a fellow and secretary to the Royal Society (only founded in 1666) he corresponded with key European scientist of the day and presented papers in his own name.
After the Great Fire of London in 1666, Hooke was the surveyor and architect he carried out more than half of the property line surveys and assisting with the city's rapid reconstruction, including the reconstruction of St.Pauls cathedral. Although he attained wealth and esteem in this work, he was also vilified by other scientist for his low birth and disabilities.
